I have been in business for almost 25 years designing custom-made dressage saddles that are made in Walsall, England. Due to the increased cost of materials, labor, and logistics of getting saddles made and shipped from England, the cost has made it difficult to make a quality saddle that can compete in this competitive market. About 6 months ago, I made contact with a Saddlery from Kanpur, India, that is providing the same quality craftsmanship that I had in England, and is basically using the same Italian leather and other materials that I had been purchased from European vendors. The price of those India made saddles is 1/3 of what I was paying from my English manufactures, which will now allow me to be more competitive, then other saddleries; where I was limited with the capacity of having only 10 saddles made a month in England, while the India manufacturer can produce 30 saddles a month, for basically the same price. My goal is to diverse my area of coverage, but also add other lines of tack: Western and Jumping saddles, bridles, and other horse equipment through online sales, and wholesale vendors.
