How We Invest We have a saying at Sidecut: "If you want to be a good partner, go first." We embody that by working closely with founders for 30 days before writing a check. That's how we run our diligence—by helping founders stay productive while we learn how they operate. Why We Invest We invest in companies that are going to make the world a better place, not clutter it with software. What this looks like are things like Economic Mobility, Digital Health, Education, and Climate. ▪ What makes Sidecut different from other pre-seed funds? We go first—advice first, capital second. We built the firm to be a true partner, not just a check. In the first 30 days, we work side-by-side with founders on whatever matters most. It's how we earn the right to be on the cap table for the next decade. ▪ What's your check size and ownership target? Typical checks are $200K–$250K. We target 2.5-5% ownership (sub-$10 M cap). ▪ What sectors or themes do you invest in? Our sweet spot is mission-driven founders building in economic mobility, education, and healthcare, especially for communities that have been historically underestimated. But more than a category, we look for energy: Is this a founder solving a real problem that matters, with obsession and clarity?
