About Scrum Ventures
Scrum Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm founded by Tak Miyata, a seasoned entrepreneur from Japan with startup and executive experience in Silicon Valley. Headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Tokyo, Minneapolis, New York, and Illinois, the firm invests across a wide range of industries in both the US and Japan.
To date, it has made over 140 investments and operates a corporate innovation platform called Scrum Studio, which connects global startups with leading Japanese corporations through co-innovation partnerships, joint ventures, incubation programs, and Japan market expansion support.
The firm takes a thematic, research-driven approach to investing and provides hands-on support across hiring, fundraising, strategic introductions, and global growth. Its Japanese corporate partners — including Panasonic, Fujitsu, Biprogy, and DeNA — offer portfolio companies direct access to the Japanese market and beyond.
Scrum Studio runs several active programs, including Hokkaido F Village X, SmartCityX, AgeTechX, GreenX, and the Sports Innovation Studio.
Its sector focus spans AI and robotics, climate tech, mobility, healthcare, deeptech, and sports and entertainment.
Notable portfolio companies include Apptronik, May Mobility, GrubMarket, Noom, Fever, ThirdLove, Earth AI, Zero Acre Farms, and Zippin. Exits include Osso VR, Hedgehog MedTech (acquired), and three IPOs — Fast Accounting, Photosynth, and ExaWizards.
