Founded in 1971, Schooner Capital is a Boston-based private investment firm engaged in venture capital, growth equity and alternative asset investments. We have no outside limited partners and approach all investments with a long-term perspective.We view patience – a long investment horizon – as fundamental. We value independent judgment and support it with a collegial atmosphere among our experienced group of professionals. In all of our efforts, we take care to build long-term relationships based on principle and trust. We are active investors in private growth companies across sectors, favoring recurring revenue, capital efficiency, and durable competitive advantage. Our structure allows us to respond to special situations without mandate constraints or fundraising concern. We also invest capital through independent managers, relying on the domain knowledge and personal character of these managers where we cannot effectively do so ourselves. Our alternative assets are concentrated in emerging and frontier markets, though we invest in targeted strategies globally. Our profits directly support The Schooner Foundation, which is actively involved in human rights causes around the world.
