Rand Capital is an externally-managed Business Development Company (BDC). The Company’s investment objective is to maximize total return to its shareholders with current income and capital appreciation by focusing its investments in privately-held, lower middle market companies with committed and experienced management in a wide variety of industries. The Company’s investment activities are managed by its external investment adviser, Rand Capital Management LLC. Since its founding in 1969, Rand has actively invested across many sectors. Rand invests in committed and experienced management teams of later-stage and growth-stage companies looking to grow or transition ownership. Rand strives to build solid, long-term, value-added relationships with the companies in which it invests, as well as with investment partners, sponsors, and bankers. The management of our portfolio companies is vital. We meet directly and often with the management of our portfolio companies, as well as their boards of directors, to monitor and evaluate their likelihood of success and maximize our returns.
