Minderoo Foundation
About Minderoo Foundation
Minderoo Foundation is a Perth-based Australian philanthropy established by Andrew and Nicola Forrest in 2001 and an active impact investor. It partners with organisations using the full spectrum of funding, from grants to impact investing, while advocating for policy reform, developing solutions and generating evidence.
Its $250 million Strategic Impact Fund invests in businesses and funds tackling modern slavery, ethical supply chains, plastics pollution and sustainable fishing, alongside women-led venture capital. Investments include Ulula, Ocean 14 Capital, Circulate Capital, Working Capital and the Foyer Central Social Impact Bond.
Minderoo seeks investments that deliver measurable impact aligned with one or more of its initiatives, generate a sustainable financial return, leverage its in-house expertise, are innovative and scalable with systemic relevance, and uphold strong ESG practices. Investees report on impact metrics, and some returns depend on social outcomes.
Minderoo doesn't disclose a check size, so I left it out. The $250 million figure is the Strategic Impact Fund's size, not a typical investment. The investee names come from press coverage and the foundation's fund page, and the page lists only part of the portfolio.
