About John Thode, Angel Investor
John Thode is an entrepreneur and executive with a track record of building technology businesses in mobility, computing, security, and imaging. He is Clinical Professor of Innovation, Leadership, and Engineering Entrepreneurship at the University of Illinois and Founder & Chairman of Thode Residential Rental Properties, a real estate venture using big data and proprietary modeling.
He has led major turnarounds and growth initiatives, including transforming DOC into a $100M acquisition, rebuilding ISCO into a profitable telecom business, and launching Dell’s division that produced industry firsts such as the phablet, convertible PC, and ultra-thin Adamo laptop.
Earlier in his career at Motorola, John led businesses in 3G mobile, broadband wireless, and cellular infrastructure, served on the Symbian Board of Directors, and contributed to the Freescale spinoff. His career reflects consistent innovation and value creation across industries.
Currently, John serves on several advisory and non-profit BODs. He is also an active investor with an angel group that actively invests in early-stage startups in the Midwest.
