About IA Ventures

IA Ventures is a seed-stage venture capital firm founded in 2009 by Roger Ehrenberg, a former Wall Street derivatives trader, based in New York City. The firm built its "information arbitrage" thesis by importing quantitative hedge fund pattern recognition and risk management into early-stage investing. The firm pioneered the "big data" seed investing category, applying disciplined bet sizing, follow-on strategy, and risk management borrowed from hedge fund practices to a concentrated, conviction-driven portfolio rather than a broad, spray-and-pray approach. IA Ventures focuses on data-intensive businesses across fintech, healthcare, advertising, and cybersecurity, betting that data serves as the defensible moat. The firm was the first institutional investor in both The Trade Desk (NASDAQ: TTD) and Wise, with additional notable investments including Digital Ocean, Datadog, Simple, and DataSift, and has recorded over 44 exits. IA Ventures has intentionally kept fund sizes under $200M across its history (Fund I at $50M, Fund II at $105M, Funds III and IV at $160M each), with partners each focusing on just 2-3 investments per year over a 3-4 year period, emphasizing deep, hands-on founder partnerships over portfolio breadth.
