Ground Squirrel Ventures uses investments to foster the growth of emerging markets and to support companies that work to mitigate climate change locally, domestically, and abroad. Being a for-profit venture capital outfit is always a balancing act. On the one hand is the mission and mandate to have a positive impact, and on the other is the pragmatic reality that our capital is not unlimited. Balancing this, we seek to have a positive impact by supporting financially sustainable businesses that create healthy communities, thriving economies, and a more bountiful, natural world. We do this through direct and fund investments and collaboration with other investors and ecosystem players who share this vision. We invest primarily in climate mitigation, domestic and abroad, and in frontier markets, focused mostly in Africa, with investments in Haiti, Asia, and Latin America. We also have a US Impact portfolio, with a strong focus on local investments here in Boston. We are excited about the next generation of ecosystem development and going off the VC-beaten path. How We Invest We seek to balance risk-adjusted investments in more mature markets with strategic bets that support the development of nascent and overlooked ecosystems. Funds We invest in funds primarily focusing on climate mitigation and emerging markets. Direct Investments We invest pre-seed to Series A, locally and abroad, with check sizes determined by geography and company stage.
