Carl Rivera is the Chief Design Officer at Shopify, where he leads efforts to reimagine the platform for the AI era. He previously served as VP of Product for Merchant Services and Shop, overseeing key expansion businesses including payments, financial services, and retail integrations. Earlier, he co-founded Tictail, which was acquired by Shopify. He spent over seven years scaling Shopify’s Shop app, growing it to tens of millions of monthly active users and expanding Shop Pay to over 200 million users. His career has focused on building consumer-facing products, driving adoption, and integrating commerce with technology platforms across global markets. Carl is also an angel investor, supporting startups in commerce and AI-driven enterprise solutions. He invested in Cerrion, a Series A-stage company developing AI-powered industrial analytics tools that help manufacturers optimize operations and improve efficiency through real-time insights.
