About CapitalX
CapitalX is a solo-GP early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2020 and based in San Francisco, California. It was founded by Cindy Bi, a seasoned angel investor who began backing startups as early as 2011 and personally invested over $400,000 of her own capital into more than 100 companies before launching CapitalX as a formal fund. She is recognized by Business Insider as one of the 30 most successful early-stage startup investors in the world. The firm has raised over $121 million in capital across rolling funds and SPVs.
CapitalX focuses on pre-seed and seed stage investments, with initial check sizes ranging from $100K to $500K and follow-on capacity exceeding $2 million per company. The firm is enterprise-focused and sector-agnostic, with particular strength in SaaS, AI, fintech, developer tools, and frontier technology. Its LP base is notably operator-heavy, with approximately 70% of LPs being founders or operators who extend the firm's portfolio support network. Prominent LPs include Marc Andreessen and David Sacks.
The firm has backed over 200 startups and has 19 unicorns in its portfolio, 15 of which were seeded at the earliest stages. Notable portfolio companies include Rippling, Zapier, Cruise (acquired by GM), Algolia, Retool, FlutterWave, ShipBob, Teleport, Go1, Boom Supersonic, and Owner.com, among others.
