Canal Holdings, a private investment firm headquartered near Cleveland, Ohio, was formed in 2005 when two like-minded investors pooled their resources and expertise to provide growth capital and strategic oversight to a small healthcare staffing company. The firm is named as a tribute to the early waterways that entrepreneurs funded, built, and managed to get their perishable products to profitable markets. Canal seeks to provide similar support to small businesses as a conduit to capital and strategic operating support to realize their fullest potential. Canal structures equity investments of up to $7 million for small businesses to fund acquisitions, other ownership transitions, recapitalizations, organic growth opportunities, and strategic add-on acquisitions. Canal’s many relationships with successful business leaders, including executives of successful prior Canal investments, have become an integral part of the firm’s management of portfolio opportunities and investments. Members of Canal’s team have owned, operated, bought, built, and sold many small businesses like those targeted by the Fund. Companies in Canal’s target market are small businesses with limited resources that will benefit from the broad experience and resources of the team.
