Black Farmer Fund

Black Farmer Fund is a nonprofit community investment fund founded in 2018 by two Black farmer-activists, headquartered in New York City. Its mission is to nurture Black community wealth and health by investing in Black agricultural systems across the Northeast. Beyond capital, BFF provides low-interest community notes and gifts alongside financial education, investment literacy, and technical support, emphasizing decentralized, community-led decision-making. It connects with mission-aligned organizations across nine Northeastern states, from Connecticut to Pennsylvania. The fund supports Black-led food system businesses — farmers, herbalists, restaurant owners, caterers, and food distributors — having backed 14 businesses so far through a combination of gifts and low-interest loans, with over $14 million raised overall. Investment decisions are made by a 10-member committee of farmers, food entrepreneurs, and organizers rather than a traditional investment team.
