About Alec Nielsen, Angel Investor

Alec Nielsen is a synthetic biologist and the co‑founder and CEO of Asimov, a company advancing the design and programming of living systems. Since founding the company in 2017, he has led its mission to apply engineering principles to biology, building tools that accelerate innovation in therapeutics and biotechnology. He earned his PhD in biological engineering from MIT’s Voigt Lab, where his research focused on synthetic biology and genetic circuit design. Earlier, he was a research assistant in the Klavins Lab at the University of Washington and was recognized as both a Siebel Scholar and an NDSEG Fellow for his academic contributions. As an angel investor, Alec has backed early‑stage companies at the intersection of biology and technology. His portfolio includes Trilobio, Cache, General Proximity, and Lamin, with his most recent investment in Lamin’s seed round in 2025.
