About AIMCo (Alberta Investment Management Corporation)
AIMCo (Alberta Investment Management Corporation) is a Crown corporation and institutional investment manager founded in 2008, headquartered in Edmonton with offices in Calgary, Toronto, London, and Luxembourg. It manages roughly $180 billion in assets on behalf of Alberta's pension, endowment, insurance, and government funds.
Beyond direct investing, AIMCo provides investment management, risk oversight, and asset allocation services to around 30 affiliated Alberta public-sector funds, drawing on more than 200 investment professionals across global offices.
The firm invests broadly across public and private markets, organizing capital into pools spanning equities, fixed income, real estate, infrastructure, and private equity. Past notable investments have included stakes in Spanish pipelines, English waterworks, Puget Sound Energy, and Canadian companies like Precision Drilling and KMC Mining.
AIMCo's investment approach emphasizes long-term, diversified allocation across asset classes and geographies, benchmarked against client-directed targets. Its criteria favor illiquid assets like real estate and private equity for higher long-term returns, balanced against the liquidity needs of its underlying pension and government clients.
