250th Anniversary Monument Commemorating the Battle of Flamborough Head
Yorkshire Coast 1779 is devoted to educating the public and keeping alive the naval battle of Flamborough Head fought on September 23, 1779. We are a non-profit organization composed of local residents of Filey, England, where the battle took place. We sponsor the yearly Filey Festival on September 23 to commemorate the battle. We are building a monument to mark the 250th anniversary of the battle in 2029. It will be grand enough to be seen by ships at sea and moving enough for local tourists to reflect on those who died at the Wall of Names.
Yorkshire Coast 1779 conducts year-round presentations to school children, business groups, and civic organizations on the story of the battle of Flamborough Head. We are also engaged with the Merlin-Burrows Limited underwater archaeological investigation company. Together, we have found the remains of the Bonhomme Richard, flagship of Commodore John Paul Jones (Father of the U.S. Navy), who fought and defeated the superior HMS Serapis under the command of Captain Richard Pearson.
After 245 years, we believe we have found the "Holy Grail" of the U.S. Navy. Come be a part of history! Learn more at www.merlinburrows.com or contact us at [email protected].
