Yorkshire Coast 1779 is devoted to educating the public and keeping alive the naval battle of Flamborough Head fought on Sep 23, 1779. We are a non-profit organization composed of local residents of Filey, England where the battle took place. We sponsor the yearly Filey Festival on Sep 23, to commemorate the battle. We are busy building the monument to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the battle (9/23/2029). It will be grand enough to be seen by ships at sea yet moving enough for local tourists to reflect on those who died in the battle at the Wall of Names. We have $100,000 commited to the monument and are looking to raise an additional $500,000.
Yorkshire Coast 1779 conducts year round presentations to school chidred, business groups and civic organizations on the story of the battle of Flamborough Head. We are also engaged with the Merlin-Burrows Limited underwater acheological investigation company. Together, we have found the remains of the Bonhomme Richard, flagship of Commodore John Paul Jones (Father of the US Navy) who fought and defeated the superior HMS Serapis, under the command of Captain (RN) Richard Pearson, who was tasked with protecting the 40 plus convoy carring vital supplies to the Royal Navy. Jones won the battle, but eventually his ship, the Bonhomme Richard sank.
One would think the US Navy would be overjoyed with this discovery. Instead, the US Navy (Navy History and Heritage Command... NHHC) has refused to acknowledge this historic find. NHHC dismisses our find and continues to tell us that it is impossible to be the Bonhomme Richard. For more detalis; see www.merlinburrows.com .
It appears that the US Navy is not interested in finding the Bonhomme Richard...why?
If your organization would like to be part of this historic event, please consider to get envolved with our project. For more details or answers to any questions you may have, please contact me at

After 245 years, we have found the "Holy Grail" of the US Navy. Come be a part of history!
