Without One Plea

Obtaining compensation from the state for unlawfully imprisoned persons.

Without One Plea (WOP), advocate and legal researchers, was founded to do one thing: free those who are unlawfully confined. WOP does this by finding those who are being held unlawfully in California prisons, documenting exactly why, mandating the government follow established procedure in felony cases — and effecting relief as required by law. The law requires release and compensation. Since 2016, WOP has reviewed over 500 cases evidencing unlawful prosecution and imprisonment by the State of California.

WOP identifies fatal jurisdictional defects in the prosecution, appellate, and imprisonment procedure— the legal errors that make continued imprisonment unlawful. WOP then holds the responsible government employees accountable and demands release of the person and compensation from the state. This work is research-based, precise, and built on California law.
