I was daydreaming in traffic one day about a machine that could go the same work as three 50k machines and last night I made that dream a reality and it works better than I thought
My wife and I recently started a woodworking machinery business. We own custom millwork and cabinetry business in Gloucester MA. I started with the idea several months ago that I could build better jigs and fixtures than are offered on the market. Most of what we make right now utilize Aluminum, stainless steel, linear rails and pneumatic clamps. We have successfully introduced several really nice products that have been received really well by the public on all of our social media platforms. I have over 30 years of experience in the millwork industry and have been creating jigs and machines for myself for all that time. I also come from a home grown engineering as well as cnc background. It’s a lot of time but I’m only 43. I literally grew up in a wood shop in a family business before starting my own. Anyways all the jigs, special fences mounts and other things were only to get to the point that I could assemble one large machine that I stumbled across daydreaming while sitting in traffic one day. What if I could build cabinet doors on just one machine using one spindle with no setup. Let me be clear there is already a company out there that does this but the machine cost 60k new and is big at all what I was thinking of but I want you to know that if you do your research like you should. My machine would have no electronics except maybe a digital readout. No special interior motors or actuators that cost a fortune. My machine would utilize special fences a special table on one side for one operation and proprietary tooling that would bring it all together. I realized that a few years prior I was already half way there with just a few simple things that I could have patented then but wasn’t really taking this seriously. Now I am. Last night my machine came to life for the first time and worked flawlessly. Less than one mhm Ute of setup time which isn’t actually setup time it’s really just putting the cutter on the spindle scribing it down if you change the door profile your using. While operating you can change the height of one operation and it automatically changes the other. This is huge dnd I mean really huge. What I’ve come up with can big only be built into new machines but I have already devised a kit that we will sell completely assembled that shops can very very simply put on there already existing machine and immediately go to work. Did I mention it’s way faster than any other machinery on the market. Even faster than systems that utilize two or theee fixed machines that cost 50k plus each. Well if is and my thirty years says holy crap. I’m applying grid all the patents right now. I needed to talk to my rolling vendor to make sure the tooling could be set up as needed and sold under my name which he is more the. Happy to do. I allowed him to see the video. I’ve known him for thirty years and my father for 45 or more. He took one look and offered Wicked Cool Tools a spot in his booth at the biggest woodworking show in the world held in Atlanta in August. It’s always been my dream just to attend let alone bring an amazing machine and or incredibly impressive jig and tooling system of my own to it. I haven’t been this happy dare I say in a long time. Anyways the 90-100 hour weeks the past few months seam to be paying off. I can have fully complete ready for market jigs made within one month and likely sooner and hull blown machinery with my seal on it all within 5-6 weeks if I have funding to dedicate time and buy materials etc etc. we have lots of work to complete at my millwork business but the money is not there to carry this any further. This is a huge impact product for all side shops from jigs to 25k entry machines to 50k work horses that will destroy everyone else.
