Hello, my name is Malik Owens, founder and owner of Welcoming Interim Shared Housing (W.I.S.H). We are an organization that provides social services, housing to homeless and low-income individuals and families who otherwise cannot afford housing in LA. Nearly 85% of our tenants have become a victim of homelessness in Los Angeles. 

We currently serve more than 65 individuals, ranging in age from 3 months to 85 years of age and have 12 housing units located throughout east, south, west and downtown LA. Nearly 40% of our units were built between 2017 and 2021. We also provide a wide range of social services to improve the lives of our tenants such as employment assistance/training, California state government documentation assistance, linkage to community services and peer mediation training, parenting and Daily Substance Disorder related support groups. 

1. Currently, WISH has 12 locations (30 bedrooms total) across Los Angeles which currently provides housing to low income / homeless individuals / families who are referred to us in a couple different ways.

2. We vet clients from larger nonprofit organization who receive funding from LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) who receives the funding from the Government of the state when funding is allocated.  We currently work with 5 nonprofit organizations who refer individuals and families to our program who are in need of housing and social services.

3. Make contact with individuals and families throughout Los Angeles community while we conduct special service community events. Individuals and families who are referred to us for housing each may come with funding source that will provide $1100-$1500 per month for the room occupied by their client. Often times we are able to house 2 individuals in one room, based on the situation.

Referred clients may come with a security deposit equaling 1 month of rent. If an individual / family is in need of locating funding for our housing, our social service coordinator will work with the client to fund qualified funding sources based on the case itself.

WISH works with a small group of developers, an owner to tent all the units we use. Have 5-10 bedroom per unit. Some of the properties have 2-3 individual buildings on the property, each building being 5 bedrooms. Each building with 5 bedrooms will have 1-2 master bedrooms and 3-4 standard rooms and 2 common bathrooms. All units are fully furnished with utilities included, washer dryer for all units, central air for all, trash service.

Unit operating cost for a 2-building 10-unit property at full capacity (2 buildings 5-bedroom 3 bath each).

In ideal WISH world, Winning to us would be the ability to establish and run a residential treatment facility, have enough staff to expand the services and goals of WISH within the community.
