We are a small, family owned cargo trailer manufacturer in Jacksonville NC. My husband began his trailer journey by first selling cargo trailers built in Georgia and Indiana with our son on a small piece of his parents land. By the third year in business they were doing $1.2 million in sales. When COVID hit they struggled to get inventory as the manufacturers fell behind on production and then catered to the larger dealers. From there an idea was born, we build our own cargo trailers but build them more sturdy than what he had sold. That is how Walton Trailer Sales, Inc. has come to be. We grew too large too fast and have struggled with various issues in our first year and a half. At first we thought we would just mass produce cookie cutter trailers like the other companies, but with better quality. As our name has gotten out there we have somehow become the go-to for custom trailers instead. We now build everything from 36' race trailers to BBQ concession trailers complete with a back porch, electrical package and sink package. Our first year building trailers we brought in over a million in sales but we had some leadership issues and were overpaying supervisors that were not getting the job done, which we have since corrected. The biggest issue we are running into now is a lack of working capital to keep materials on hand so that trailers can be produced in a timely manner. We have orders coming in daily and could still sell locally if we had inventory on our lot but all of our funds are going to materials for the orders we have and payroll. We know what our business is capable of doing, we just need the funds to help us get there.
