Volare, Inc has partnered with Robert Ganz, MD (founder of Barrx) to develop a technology to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, the number one risk factor to esophageal cancer. Our patent pending technology utilizes the bodies natural process of wanting to encapsulate a foreign body to create a collagen ring of tissue around the outside of the esophagus to restrict the opening of the lower esophagus. We are levering what we have observed clinically following surgical implantation of the Ethicon/ J&J (Torax Medical - LINX magnetic sphincter device to our advantage: the LINX device always gets encapsulated in a tubular ring of collagen and in a significant minority the LINX devices need to be surgically removed and clinical experience has demonstrated ongoing cessation reflux symptoms follow LINX removal. The persistent ring of collagen remaining post explantation is sufficient to control GERD.
Eschara intends on creating a collagen ring around the outside diameter of the esophagus by utilizing FDA cleared bioabsorbable sutures fabricated in a tubular matrix that will be surgically implanted in similar manner as the LINX device.
Milestones:
- Have a supply agreement with a strategic to supply all of our bioabsorbable suture materials needed for development (the strategic is one of the larger suture manufacturers in the world)
- Completed successful 12 week chronic animal study
- Strategic is interested in participating in our series A round after we have completed 2 more animal studies and have identified a lead investor
