The purpose of this Funding Request is to raise a total of $650,000 for the development of Wild Palm St. John, a one-of-a-kind tropical glamping experience on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The one-acre tropical Wild Palm property is located approximately two miles from the main tourist town of Cruz Bay and less than five miles from the famous North Shore beaches of Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Maho Bay and others. The location of this slightly downward-sloping property allows it to catch refreshing breezes from the east, while also having amazing sunset views to the west (towards the twinkling lights of St. Thomas—a coveted night view).
The project consists of 10 “mirrored” geodesic domes, each approximately 15 feet in diameter, which beautifully reflect their lush surroundings. Each dome has its own shaded deck, toilet, outdoor shower and air conditioning unit.
In addition, the resort-style property encourages community and accommodates larger groups with its central gathering area that includes a “container café” kitchen with communal dining, yoga and barbecue areas, and a large 27’ x 13’ saltwater swimming pool with lounge deck and ocean views.
This scenic property will have a resort feel, with connecting trails and LED-based landscape lighting highlighting the tropical foliage and wild palm trees that exist throughout the property.
The project will have a focus on sustainability (recycling, composting, living wall), health and wellness (marketing to yoga groups, etc.) and outdoor sports (renting e-bikes, paddleboards, snorkel equipment, etc.)
The business owners (and requestors of this funding) already own this property debt-free. The site plans are finalized by architect and engineer, and permitting is underway. Funds will be used for structures, construction, infrastructure and startup operating costs.
