We provided transportation for families and friends to visit their incarcerated loved ones in one of the 18 different Indiana state, federal and Juvenile correctional facilities. Use What You’ve Got Ministry Keeping Families Connected is a 38-year social impact organization based in Indiana that strengthens justice-impacted families through transportation, healing services, and community-based support.
The organization began by addressing a critical but overlooked barrier for incarcerated individuals and their families: access to safe, reliable transportation for prison visitation. Over nearly four decades, Use What You’ve Got Ministry Keeping Families Connected has provided specialized transportation to 18 Indiana correctional facilities, helping families maintain connection, stability, and emotional well-being during incarceration.
Building on this foundation, the organization has expanded into wraparound services that support individuals and families affected by incarceration, substance use, trauma, and reentry. Core programs include life-skills education, health and wellness programming, peer-led support, men’s and women’s retreats, youth and family engagement activities, and an annual holiday assistance program for children with incarcerated loved ones.
The organization is now developing a Family Success Center model designed to serve as a centralized hub for transportation coordination, trauma-informed services, wellness education, and community connection. This model integrates trusted, relationship-based service delivery with structured programming that promotes family stability, personal accountability, and long-term success.
Use What You’ve Got Ministry Keeping Families Connected operates through a combination of nonprofit services and emerging enterprise activities, allowing for scalability, accountability, and sustainability. The organization collaborates with correctional institutions, healthcare partners, faith-based organizations, community nonprofits, and civic leaders to ensure continuity of care and measurable impact.
Led by Founder and Executive Director Cecelia Whitfield, whose lived experience and leadership have shaped the organization since its inception, the team brings deep community trust, operational knowledge, and long-standing partnerships. Governance is provided by an active Board of Directors with experience in finance, community development, health, and justice-related systems.
Through transportation, healing, and systems-based support, Use What You’ve Got Ministry Keeping Families Connected works to strengthen families, reduce isolation, and improve outcomes for justice-impacted communities across Indiana.
