The Vagabond Social- good name right? I want to build an artist’s retreat focused on mental health and wellness. As a single mother, artist, and survivor, I understand the importance of having safe space to create. From 2017-2018 I renovated and curated 4 AirBnB rental spaces for a friend in Tennessee that earned her a LARGE amount of money. When the pandemic hit and my job managing a boutique disappeared, I decided to make my life what I really wanted on the other side of all of this. I invested in a 27foot camper that I gutted and renovated into a tiny home. I was parked at the only available place near the Indy Metro area and paying an astronomical amount for a slum. But I was proud of my space and the smaller carbon footprint. At the same time, I started the process of making my debut album. From all directions I heard how now that I was “a real musician” the expectation was for me to run myself ragged to earn my place with the other starving artists. So I spent a year rapid cycling to succeed. Through this process I was diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2. This diagnosis got me thinking- how great would it be if I was instead able to park my tiny home at a place where other artists were also creating and inspiring and processing together? The music industry is changing. The belief that the artist must dissolve for the sake of the art is a dying thought process. I believe I could create a haven. With thoughtfully curated and intimate spaces that foster health and wellness alongside the freedom and support to create whatever art they were called to. I have a vision of including community gardens for us all to co-op. Hosting artist residencies, team building, camps, events, retreats, the list goes on. A home to serve as “home base” with wooded land to disperse living and creative common spaces are the first major steps. We already have a team assembled from therapists and instructors to general contractors and non profits interested in assisting.  Help me make a difference in the lives of the artists who enrich culture all around you.
