Introduction:
The Social Antidote Project LLC provides holistic and collaborative solutions to mitigate extensive psychological, legal, and financial harms caused by interpersonal violence (or IPV, via our inaugural event called The Antidote Conference), as well as enhance EQ around race and racially equitable opportunities by completing our website course (The Black Alliance Transformation) that parallels historical empathy with our current American society to bring about new, innovative and equitable solutions. Our inaugural event, The Antidote Conference, is a 2-day event filled with intriguing panel discussions and therapeutically creative workshops that will help survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, and sex trafficking to be able to reclaim their psyches, legal rights, and be able to build a financial legacy for themselves and their loved ones.
Background:
According to the statistics on ItsOnUs.org, "An estimated 20–25% of undergraduate women are victims/survivors of sexual violence, but 90% or more do not report the violence." Of that percentage, approximately 34% drop out as a result of their assault (Mengo & Black, 2015). Additionally, nearly half of the victimized students report institutional betrayal (Freyd, 2018).
This was me.
Not only was I targeted by a serial rapist as a Freshman at The University of Alabama, I was abused by him repeatedly for over 3 and a half hours and then tormented for months afterwards, changing the trajectory of my life. Since the Police did not investigate my rape and lied about sending my case to the D.A. to convene a Grand Jury, the rapist was able to stalk, harass, and threaten me in between classes and at performances (as I was a singer and actor), causing me to form a life-long panic disorder. What made everything exponentially worse was that I was alone. My university did not support me, nor did the police, nor did the hospital, nor did my community, and I nearly ended my life because of that. I am changing this for countless survivors.
Holistic Solution:
The Social Antidote Project LLC's inaugural event, The Antidote Conference, was curated to be a holistic helpmate for survivors of interpersonal violence, which kicks off in April 2024 on campus at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. This conference will be featuring speakers from the TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund, local and federal governmental officials, creative therapies, and much more. We will empower survivors, while engaging with colleges, law enforcement, and government officials in order to create an ecosystem shift around helping interpersonal violence survivors.
Competition & What Sets Us Apart:
While there are numerous organizations, like Resilience (in Chicago, IL), geared towards helping survivors to receive the information needed to heal and preventative education, and nonprofits that focus solely on college campuses, such as "It's On Us" in D.C., there is currently no organization doing what The Antidote Conference will do. This conference is a massive collaborative vehicle, bringing together trauma-informed local and national organizations, products, services, and individuals, to build up survivors in every state in America so that we can rise together and change laws with one mighty, unified voice. At the end of the conference, there is an evening of entertainment so that everyone can release, welcome in a sense of joy and hope, and begin planning monthly meetings to establish a safe community for one another to continue healing.
The Ask & Revenue Streams:
We are seeking pre-seed and seed funding to launch this conference while I'm enrolled within Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education & Psychology's Social Entrepreneurship & Change program so that we can continue that momentum as we head to other colleges and universities and help as many survivors as possible. Thankfully, we have welcomed two financial advisors to provide financial guidance, Al Hassanein (Comptroller of Crescent Capital Group, LP) & Jeff Fouchey (Financial Aid expert & Founder of Faid) so that we are always being responsible with any funding that we receive. For revenue, we will be selling tickets (in-person & online), as well as selling merchandise, and will also receive a percentage of our vendors' sales. Additionally, we will utilize the revenue from corporate DEI & individual online purchases of The Black Alliance Transformation course packages to serve towards the efforts of The Antidote Conference.
Feel free to message me for any further information, and if you would like to hear a bit more about my story, feel free to listen to this podcast episode, where my truth is featured: "
How We Fail Rape Survivors."
TOGETHER, WE ARE THE ANTIDOTE TO RAPE CULTURE!!! I invite you to join us in our effort of shifting our society towards being more trauma-informed, safe, and uplifting for survivors. Who knows, you could be helping your daughter, son, wife, husband, partner and/or mother or father -- without knowing it yet. But know that each of us deserves help.
Thank you for your time!
