The Little Butterfly Garden

Raising $500K for a medical daycare for medically complex children whose expenses are fully paid through Medicaid.

I am a registered nurse who wants to open a medical daycare for medically complex children who are unable to attend regular daycare due to their conditions. The company will employ registered nurses and therapists to care for medically complex children whose expenses are paid for through Medicaid and private insurance. We already have a waiting list of over 120 families. Children with G-tubes, capped trachs, ports, cancer, down syndrome, NICU babies, deaf, blind, and a thousand other conditions are unable to attend regular daycare. With the nursing shortage, they are unable to get private duty nursing and the parents are having to stay home to be the caregiver, most unable to work any longer. Through the Medically Complex Children Waiver, Medicaid pays $28.50 per hour per kid just for a facility fee. (We will operate from 8 am to 5 pm five days a week.) Medicaid also pays $300 per hour for each kid for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. Every medically complex child requires all three therapies 1 to 2 times every week at 1-hour sessions each. (Private insurance companies pay more for facility fees and therapies.) We will employ a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and Speech Therapist as well as provide them with their own room in our facility for their sessions. Parents will no longer have to schedule all 3 of these specialties at their houses each week. We are looking to start tuition at around $200 per week per child. Medicaid also will help families pay for the tuition through ABC vouchers. We need help funding the building. There are guidelines for daycares as far as size, firewalls, equipment, playground, etc. The closest medical daycare is 2 hours from us and they have a 3-year wait. We already have the staff including nurses, teachers, therapists, billing and coding, grant writer, and administrative assistant. We literally just need a building and all the modifications that go with turning the building into what we need. We are thinking between $300K and $500K to get this thing off the ground. Thank you for your consideration!
