I am Rick Mayer, founder of the Garden of Eden Project, a practical regenerative permaculture initiative designed to create sustainable, self-sufficient eco-communities.
The project uses an innovative concentric-circle planting system of fruit and nut trees surrounding energy-efficient straw-bale housing. This layout is engineered for high yields, biodiversity, efficient land use, and a calm, therapeutic living environment. Residents grow the majority of their own fresh, organic, nutrient-dense plant-based food on-site through regenerative practices and closed-loop nutrient cycling.
We are currently focused on developing a 10-acre pilot in California for 20 residents as a proof-of-concept. Detailed designs, yield calculations, and planting plans are available on the project website:

Key elements of the model include:
- Concentric fruit and nut tree circles optimized for productivity and year-round harvests
- Integrated annual gardens and companion planting
- Straw-bale homes designed for quiet, energy-efficient living
- Simple digital coordination tools for collaborative resource management
- Strong emphasis on soil regeneration and long-term ecological sustainability
Thank you for your time and consideration.
