We are aiming to utilize HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) to create obstruction of the vas deferens in adult males as a means of permanent birth control. Standard vasectomy treatment has not changed in 50+ years. Pain, risk of infection, overall dissatisfaction and fear associated with the standard procedure has kept the number of vasectomy procedures from growing in the past 10+ years.  Our procedure will eliminate most of the costs associated with a standard open vasectomy and deliver quantitative and qualitative benefits that create value for both the patient and the physician.   The traditional procedure involves 2 incisions in the skin - even “no-scalpel” vasectomies involve puncture holes in the skin which can lead to irritation and infection. The post-vasectomy average incision site infection rate is 3-4%.  Our procedure will change the way vasectomies are performed as it will be the only completely non-invasive vasectomy option for men.   The fast and easy procedure consists of placing a HIFU transducer on the scrotal skin in 2 areas and energizing those areas for 6 seconds each. This action will create thermal injury to the vas with subsequent collagen formation (scar tissue) in the lumen of the vas thereby creating a barrier for sperm to move from the testicle into the body. Our procedure benefits include:   Short ~10min Procedure Time,  Less Procedural Pain,  Less Post-Operative Pain and a  Quicker Return to Normal Activities.
The customer profile is adult males who are seeking a faster, easier, less painful option for vasectomy. Men’s #1 fear is pain associated with the procedure – during and after. Many have heard stories from friends about post-procedure discomfort and long recovery time. The traditional procedure involves 2 incisions in the skin. Even “no-scalpel” vasectomies involve puncture holes in the skin. Post-vasectomy average incision site infection rate is 3-4%. Our new procedure will eliminate those issues and concerns as it will be the only completely non-invasive vasectomy option for men.

The market opportunity for this new vasectomy procedure is tremendous. Approximately 2.4M permanent sterilization are performed in the U.S. each year. This includes approximately 500,000 vasectomies and 1.9M tubal ligations. We believe more couples will prefer our procedure (vasectomy) over tubal ligation thus growing the vasectomy market.   Our new procedure will be an attractive option for couples considering other permanent methods of contraception. As a result, we believe that, in addition to gaining significant traction within the sterilization market, our new procedure will also increase the number of annual procedures and vasectomy adoption rates overall, leading to a larger share of the permanent sterilization market.
