Sundae Afternoon

Hi, my name is Lisa Calhoun and I have lived in Cheshire, CT for over 25 years. For as long as I have been here there has always been an ice cream parlor that did a great business. Last summer this ice cream parlor relocated, leaving the residents on the south side of town with nowhere to get hard serve ice cream. I would like to open a new ice cream parlor and I have found the perfect location!

500 South Main Street in Cheshire, CT is located directly across the street from Cheshire High School and adjacent to Bartlem Park, the largest recreation area in town. The park is home to several ball fields, the town pool, a skate park, a playground, a rentable picnic pavilion and a community garden with 55 plots. The park also hosts many events such as sporting tournaments, swim meets, a summer concert series, and a fall festival to name a few. Town run athletic teams and high school students use the fields and pool for practices and the overflow parking from the high school is in the park so students must go right past the ice cream parlor to get to their cars every day. The town will be expanding the park this year to include more ball fields with lights, a second bathroom, more parking and another field for concerts and outdoor events. The high concentration of activities for children and families makes this an ideal location not only for Cheshire residents but for people from the surrounding areas that use the park as well. 

I love ice cream and I love my community! Being able to provide jobs that are easily accessible to high school students and having a large presence by supporting sports teams and fundraising events would mean the world to me.

The funding will be used to buy dipping cabinets, freezers and other equipment required to do business as well as for some plumbing that needs to be done to add sinks to the building.

I have experience as a small business owner and have also worked as a program manager in the past, so I know what goes into running this kind of enterprise.
