Skagit Valley Orchard, LLC is a start-up veteran business venture to provide the communities of the Skagit Valley with high quality sustainably and locally grown dessert apples so that the individuals and families of the greater Skagit Valley can enjoy farm-to-table apples. The orchard will owned an operated as a family farm, planted on 5.75 AgNR zoned land in Skagit County that already owned by my family with 5,100 apple trees across 11 cultivars. Using the Tall Spindle high density apple growing method championed by Cornell University, SVO is estimating a product yield of a combined 3,300 bushel per acre in the first five years with reaching maximum production in the 2032. Using today's average prices for each cultivar and accounting for setting only 80% of the available fruit capacity of the tree, estimating that only 80% of the set fruit will grow to ripen, and only 80% of that quantity will be sold (an 80-80-80 model or 51.2% of tree growing capacity), conservative estimates of gross income being at $100K starting in the second year and grow to greater than $1.3M during the sixth year. Full orchard potential, including future products (honey, confections, jams, and fresh cider), will see a gross income potential around $1.8M in 2032.
Skagit Valley Orchard will focus on providing the highest quality fruit using sustainable organic methods while conserving natural resources and incorporating a zero waste policy. Automation systems are being designed to fully automate the irrigation based on each tree's need instead of using broadcast watering or even 'block drip irrigation' as most commercial organic apple farmers do in Washington State. Future growth of the orchard will see AI monitoring apple quantity and quality, calling drones to spot apply organic pesticides and herbicides immediately upon detection of pest infestations and ultimately be the engine behind an all informative SVO consumer app, tracking the customers purchasing habits from the farm-to-table.
