Sign Wizard Inc. is a second generation sign company started by Bruce Collett. Bruce who lived originally in CT started Camaro Signs in 1969 and then in 1989 Bruce decided to sell and move to Florida. He then started Sign Wizard Inc, and brought me, Tanya, his daughter on as a graphic designer and partner. Through a local flea market, we began to build clientele offering truck lettering, magnetic signs, banners, business lettering and signs, both lit and not. It did not take long for the business to be so busy that we established a home shop, and gave up the flea market. We followed consumer demand and began offering even larger and broader types of signage, and eventually added employees.
After having Water Oak Country Club as a customer for many years, their parent company, Sun Communities began taking notice of our quality and the ability to customize signage in order to set each customer apart from the rest and hired us to supply many of the other communities in Florida. We provided them with entry signs, wayfinding signs, golf course and all other types of community signs that they needed. Even though our company was busy and growing, we still found time to notice the trend of vehicle wrapping coming up quickly. We then hired, Brooke Gayton, Tanya's daughter and sent her to vehicle wrap school where she became a certified wrap artist and began to take on another customer base where vehicle wrapping is just another way to set you apart from your competitors. With the company getting busier, we needed more room and bought a large commercial building and land. We built a second building on that land, and have a long term renter there providing a good rental income.
In 2019, Scott Zessin was hired as our general manager. Scott, Tanya's husband, has a long history of retail management, working for Petsmart, Petco, Toys R Us, and others. Bruce was starting to look towards retirement, and began setting up a team to be successful into the future. Since then, many obstacles have come along, a pandemic, a supply shortage, and now an inflated economy, but we have continued to be open and profitable. Bruce retired in 2022, and Scott and Tanya took over the business, and purchased the property.
With the business slowing a bit, we are trying to outsource less to widen our profit margin, and would love to do that with the purchase of a router and a sales vehicle. We would also like to keep a cushion in the bank and have some working capital to fall back on in the event of inevitable repairs and expenses. We know we have a great team in place, with our management having many years of experience in the industry and our installers also having worked most of their lives in the sign business. And with this extra capital, we can look forward to a long, profitable future to be passed onto yet another generation of hard working sign professionals.
