As a 4th Generation Master of Towing on U.S. waterways, I’ve witnessed firsthand how little has changed in the industry’s operations. While companies have adapted to Coast Guard and OSHA regulations, the crewing process remains outdated and inefficient—still relying on handwritten notes and endless phone calls to staff vessels.
A personal experience highlighted this problem for me: I needed to leave a boat early for a family emergency. The process took 18 hours because I had to navigate a bureaucratic maze—calling crewing, then my port captain, then back to crewing, all while waiting for email confirmations before anyone even started looking for a replacement. This system is broken, and I want to fix it.
I’ve partnered with a development team to build an app that streamlines crew management, combining the efficiency of Uber and 7shifts.com, but designed specifically for the towboat industry. Instead of endless calls and delays, crew members can:

To further solve the crewing shortage, I personally financed the development of a built-in freelancing platform, which is now live and operational.
