Redwood Hill Ranch

Raising money to purchase a property to build up a riding school and horse boarding business

Redwood Hill Ranch is a fledgling business run by Brianna Kenney and her business partner Victoria Gee.

The overall goal of Redwood Hill is to produce the epitome of all-around horses with a splash of color. We will combine several common aspects of the equestrian business world to make up its main business and allow us to achieve our overall goals.

The main money-making business will be to provide market-competitive rates for horse boarding. With pasture space aplenty, Redwood Hill offers the ability for horses to live a happier, more natural life. While boarding others’ horses will fill up stalls and spread the word, Redwood Hill will also develop its own riding school.

With a Master Instructor part-owner, the horses we produce can be used for riding lessons for anyone who is interested in learning to ride. We have horses suitable for any level of rider and can use the goals of our students to match them with the perfect horse. During school breaks, we will offer riding camps for all ages. This will allow children to learn all about horses and hard but rewarding work and keep them active.

Horse boarding around the Vacaville to Woodland area is fairly impacted due to UC Davis students bringing their horses with them, and very few of these barns allow for year-round all-day turnout for the horses. The board will be full-service and competitively priced. Board per horse will cover feed, bedding, and labour while still allowing for a profit.

The riding school aspect of Redwood Hill will be something relatively rare for the area. We will have school horses that love their job, and enough to provide group lessons. There are only two other barns in the area that offer lessons, and only one that has dedicated school horses. With close proximity to Vacaville and Travis AFB, the untapped market of this area gives ample opportunities for new business and continuous growth.

As this project has yet to get off the ground, we have not had a place to set up and start building up the business. Our master instructor is currently teaching riding lessons in the Bay Area and has a high demand for her lessons.

Horse boarding in the area is also in high demand. Vacaville itself only has a few boarding barns, many of which are self-service. Most barns in the Davis/Woodland area are full-service. As such, many of the barns do not have openings for new horses and their high board rates make owning horses more difficult to achieve for many students and professionals.

The horses that Redwood Hill is already producing are in high demand and popular on social media. SMO practices and SocMed engagement will spread the word of well-bred, friendly, willing, and colorful horses. With a fun and sassy social media presence, we are already gaining popularity and a following.

We want to be known as the go-to place for riding lessons. Our trustworthy and willing horses will endear our clients and secure longer and stronger relationships. We want to host popular camps for kids during school breaks, not only so they have something to do while their parents are at work, but so they can spend the time outside and have fun!

During the off-times of years, we will host clinics and invite riders from all over the region to come to ride with us. Clinics will provide additional income while advertising and getting our name out.

Our breeding program will bring in more horses for the school if not sold as weanlings. If a client falls in love with their lesson horse they will have the unique opportunity to purchase them.

Marketing will be focused on several areas related to the equine business. Advertisements will occur in local magazines, social media, Google ads, and on showground bulletin boards. Word of mouth will be a solid method of getting the word out, and referrals for boarding and training are often passed around this way.

Additionally, flyers can be passed around at equine events, and the ranch name and logo can be magnetically added to cars and trailers for mobile advertisement.

One of the best modes of marketing will be showing off your product. Redwood Hill’s name will be passed around when attached to our horses. The name will pass along at shows, through branding, and by the performance and personalities of the horses bred here.
