Join us in transforming lives - your support can provide a safe haven for foster children. Help us build a brighter future, one investment at a time.
Foster children are typically twice harmed - once when they experience unhealthy situations in their home, and again when they are removed from their home for safety.
Nova Family Resource and Childcare Center realizes the trauma that these children experience and is creating a therapeutic childcare and resource center for children in the foster care system. Our center will staff trauma-informed childcare workers who will work hand in hand with the on-site counselor and occupational therapist to provide resources for these children and their families - both biological and foster families.
Carole Harper is the owner/founder of Nova. Carole retired from 34 years at the City of Bellevue, Washington. During her career she served as a project manager, information technology manager, and assistant director, positions that gave her the opportunity to create several micro-organizations. She knows how to build and manage an organization. Carole has also been a foster parent and an adoptive parent, and has dealt with her children’s unique traumas. Carole is also serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). A CASA is a party to a case in dependency court and speaks on behalf of the children.
Danika Foster, the childcare director, is an experienced elementary educator and will receive her master's degree in June, 2024. She has worked in both childcare facilities and the public school system, and comes with knowledge of building a sustainable childcare center.
Peyton Foster, the behavioral health director, has a master's in social work and is experienced in working with children in the foster care system. Peyton and Danika are current foster parents and have recently adopted a child from the foster system.
Janet Webb is an experienced certified occupational therapy assistant. She has been working to set up the occupational therapy program for Nova.
We have an advisory board of eight members - each brings a unique perspective to the table.
The program is at no cost to the families. These families qualify for reimbursement through the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) in the State of Washington and Medicaid, which will be Nova's source of revenue.
We have invested $200k of our own funding to date. Unfortunately, the building has required major upgrades, and the permitting and inspection process has been extensive and expensive. We are looking for funding to bridge the gap so we can receive our certificate of occupancy (CO), behavioral health license, and childcare license so that we can open. We are expecting our CO in January. At that point, we can submit our application for both childcare and behavioral health licensing. Each of these licenses can take up to 90 days for approval. We have been working with both agencies to ensure that we meet the requirements for licensure so that our process can take less than the full 90 days.
