The North Park Community Development Organization was formed in August 2019 in response to the ongoing gentrification within the City of Long Beach, New York. The mission of the North Park Community Corporation is to empower and provide affordable housing to low and moderate income families in the North Park area of Long Beach, New York. The history of Black Americans who migrated from the Deep South to a coastal area is at stake. Investments will secure vacant properties to maintain and strengthen the community.
The North Park Community Corporation seeks to work with a variety of entities – including unions, businesses, non-profits, government, and educational institutions, North Park Community Corporation in partnership will uniquely integrate education, workforce development, apprenticeships, community development and business development to foster economic empowerment.
The North Park Community Corporation has developed an empowerment model:
1. The North Park Community corporation will identify a desirable property and secure it.
2. The North Park Community corporation will renovate the property to provide quality housing.
3. The North Park Community corporation will employ residents of the area to provide employment, economic empowerment to those within the community. Our goal is to support MWBE and general workers that reflect the community.
4. The North Park Community corporation will provide housing counseling services to help the individual/family to maintain the property.
About the Area
Long Beach is a suburb on Nassau County with a population of 33,509. Approximately 20 miles from Manhattan, many young professionals and retirees live in Long Beach. The North Park area is strategically located near the LIRR train station- ideal for transit oriented development. The culturally diverse area has multiple bayfront properties available.
