The founder/owner of My Kids Have Paws Veterinary Clinic (MKHP), Robyn O’Kane, has been a veterinarian for more than 9 years. Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Robyn taught human Anatomy and Physiology to nursing students in Queens, NY, enjoying the diversity of the students and their learning styles. However, her passion for animal welfare finally overcame her love of teaching. Her personal mission is to help reduce euthanasia rates by spaying/neutering and to help keep pets healthy and in their homes with affordable surgical and medical care.
Once Dr. Robyn became a vet, she chose this area based on need. NE Georgia (and the south particularly) has high rate of heartworm positive dogs, large feral cat communities, and high euthanasia rates due to little or no access to affordable care, vaccinations or treatments. The only other choice for low cost spay/neuter in our area closed about a year ago so we are absorbing their clientele. We have clients who drive more than an hour (some cases - several hours) to seek our services. Unwanted litters continue to fill our shelters, so our most important mission is the Stop the Cycle of unwanted pets.
Additionally, MKHP works with 30+ regional shelters and humane societies toward the same mission - stop the cycle. We also work with those same shelters and humane societies to transport adoptable pets to northern locations who have adopters waiting for their new furry friends. Our team members regularly take on bottle babies until they can be adopted, they take pets with disabilities who would otherwise be put down, they step in for many pets who are near the end of their journey to give them a loving home until the end.
We are 46 team members strong! In addition to Dr. Robyn, we have a full-time surgeon and one part-time exam/dental veterinarian. We are anticipating two additional doctors coming on board soon.
