Know Kidding Farm and Vines

The American Farm Bureau Federation estimates over 140,000 farms were lost in 5 years. This was due to many factors including overcrowded cities needing to expand. Additionally, a lot of the existing farmland in the US is being bought by foreign countries such as China which creates a national security risk by increasing our dependence on foreign nations. Current requirements, costs, interest rates, and other factors prevents new farmers from acquiring the land and capital needed to replace the farms lost. We want to reverse this trend, even by one farm at a time, to get our farms back and keep US farms in US hands. Our goal is to raise 5 million dollars to purchase a historical property in Essex County, VA. This property has several buildings on site and sits on 204 acres. The buildings are already set up to accommodate weddings/receptions, bed and breakfast, in addition to the farm land available. Our farm will consist of various poultry such as chicken, quail, ducks, turkey, and peafowl. Livestock will include cows, but primarily will be meat and fiber sheep and meat, fiber, and milk goats. We will provide high quality meats, fiber, milk, and other products such as soaps, creams, lotions, etc. using everything our farm provides. On top of all of that, we will create a vinyard and winery focusing primarily on muscadines and muscadine wines. Virginia climate is ideal for vinyards and currently there is very little competition in muscadine and muscadine wine. Popularity for muscadines is not as high as that of other grapes, but it has steadily increased as muscadines have been bred to be sweeter and skin more edible compared to their wild varieties. We will also continue to host wedding and various events on the property. Our goal is to be able to provide full time work for several personnel within a few years and to also use our farm as a platform to educate the next generation of farmers, setting them up for success.
