Hi,
My name is Samuel Radcliffe, I am a 20 year old male living in Geelong, Victoria studying a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) and working as a draftsperson/architect, I am also an aspiring entrepreneur. I do not have much experience in the world of business but I am a dreamer who is determined to gain the skills needed to be successful in the space.
Over the past months I have been brainstorming ideas for an ios/android/web app called ‘Modely’. The idea of Modely is to provide a user friendly social networking app which allows designers or people interested in design and 3D modelling, to share their 3D models with the world and connect through them. The application would act similarly to how Instagram or Pinterest would although with 3D models rather than still images. Users would have feed, search, notification and account tabs on the application and would gain the ability to view a 3D model, pan around, zoom e.g.
As a designer and tech lover, I understand and get excited over the possibilities of things this app could achieve, I also know that as a designers there are many other designers throughout the world and they all have one thing they love to connect, discuss and marvel over… design and 3D modelling. Users could use Modely to share any type of 3D modelling they have created, whether it be at a professional business level like an architect, or a high school student mucking around on google sketch up and wanting to share their creations. Possible categories of 3D modelling which could be uploaded are as followed by certainly not limited to..
- Architecture (interior/exterior)
- Watches
- Jewellery
- Products
- Cars
- Water-crafts
- Aircrafts
- Helicopters
- Engineering
- People
- Animals
- Characters
- Space / planets
- Industrial
- Food
- Military
I have had communications with ‘Appetiser’, the 7th ranked app developers in the world (based in Australia) to discuss the possibilities of such an app like Modely, I received positive responses. Appetiser designs, develops and maintains all aspects of the application while adhering to the clients wants and needs, they have developed mulit-million dollar apps for big, successful companies. A rough estimate of pricing I was given was $14K AUD for the design stage, an estimate for the actual development of the app could not be given due to the large range of pricing between different apps although after some quick research I found that up to 100K or above is common in the world of app development. I encourage you to check out their website... appetiser.com.au
Modely has huge purpose and would be a very appreciated app if created correctly, there is nothing like this on the market currently besides websites that are 1 dimensional when compared to the possibilities of Modely. Some websites serve as a buy and sell platform of 3D modelling, whereas Modely would focus more on the sharing and displaying of someone's work and being able to connect with people through it.
The app would allow personal and business accounts to share their work. For example, an architecture firm may want to better share their 3d modelling work to attract new customers. Allowing a potential customer to pan around a 3d model of a beautiful house the creator has designed is a much more immersive experience then the potential customer looking at a still image render of the front or back or side or corner of a structure... We live in a three dimensional world, not a flat, boring, two dimensional world, technology has developed to a point where these three dimensional possibilities are developing and new opportunities in the space are opening up.
With the newly announced 'Metaverse' which I am sure anyone in the tech world is well aware of, now feels like the perfect timing (which I value highly) for this app to be created, developed and shared. Now more than ever 3D modelling is growing rapidly and being adopted by major companies, I feel like there is a gap in the market which is begging to be filled, an app that allows people to share and connect through 3D modelling. This gap in the market could easily leak into other sections of the market as the market grows and develops as we are seeing it do now.
Modely could return profits through the use of adverts which could be presented to the viewer in similar fashion to how Pinterest or Instagram displays adverts. I can certainly see Modely branching into a trading platform also in the future which would obviously be another great source of revenue and I am very open to any suggestions or ideas that would return more revenue although I feel like what I am pitching now is a great place to start. The adoptions of NFT's is another path Modely could explore and would be something certainly worth thinking about in the future.
Modely would be very simple and easy to market, the target audience consists of designers and design lovers, and trust me they love design. The market is niche and it is strong and as stated earlier, the adoption of 3D modelling is happening now and drawing more people into this market.
Obviously I am at the very early stages of this entire journey but I believe Modely can become a household name within the design community and beyond. With the funding which I unfortunately cannot provide for this project myself, we can begin to develop and create a name which I believe has no limit to its possibilities.
I currently have some rough concept designs of how the app would look and function which I would be happy to share, although keep in mind that Appetiser would help out with the design phase of this process majorly (in regard to what we want as the customers).
If you would like any further information please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions.
I look forward to hearing your response, thank you and have a great day.
Regards,
Samuel
