Company: Mental Health Metrics (MHM) vends an information service that vastly improves the quality of life and care for persons with schizophrenia and other serious and persistent mental illnesses (SPMI), thereby, reducing the costs of care through significant reduction in relapse rates. The technology uses techniques of Artificial Intelligence (AI) limiting the more untested features of AI and adhering to ethical standards of governing AI1. Business Sector: MHM is a Pennsylvania for-profit business in the community mental health sector of the healthcare Industry. While this segment is not a high growth market, it is inflated by the number of avoidable crises that occur. The Goals and Objectives: The primary objective in this round of funding (i.e.,$1,000,000) is to conduct a pilot of the Early Detection Technology (EDT) in the prospective customer sites -viz., Horizon House (Philadelphia), Mercy (Allegheny County), and Wesley Family Service (Southwest PA). Success of this project is the final condition for a full commercialization of Mental Health Metric, Inc. 

Upon commercialization, MHM aims to provide its relapse prevention technology to every US agency that annually treats the 1.5 million persons with schizophrenia. With the price of the annual monitoring service at $2,400/person/year, MHM aims to achieve revenue of $50 million within three years and $250million by the fifth year.

1MHM attends the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) programs on ethical applications of AI sponsored by K&L Gates and has consulted with faculty on the subject of ethical application of AI.


 


The Products and Services: The MHM product, EDT, will be installed in each agency customer site. MHM service provides ongoing continuous reports on the relapse status of each patient. The MHM initial testing supports the claim that EDT, properly employed, will significantly improve the quality of care for the patient and significantly cut crises costs. 

Future Products and Services: Development of a smartphone version of the current laptop version; a product for the first episode patient; and aproduct for predicting relapse in persons with BiPolar condition.

The Target Market: The Company 's target market is managed care organizations that fund community mental heath agencies that treat adults - male, female, non-binary, transgender, and more, ages 18 to 65 year who suffer schizophrenia.(See the list "Letters of Support" for the pilot). Crisis services for persons with schizophrenia in the US, including hospitalizations, cost about $9 Billion annually. This request for funding of $1,000,000 is to demonstrate the efficacy of the technology.

Advantges of Pittsburgh Location: Pittsburgh is the location of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, a national leader in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of mental health and addictive disorders. Carnegie Mellon University, also a Pittsburgh institution, is a leader in Information technology, engineering, and pioneered the field of Artificial Intelligence. The MHM management has several contacts with these organizations. 

Advertising: The Company will promote the business through:Online channels (website, Google ads, etc.); Email marketing (newsletters, brand story, etc.); Print (magazines, flyers, etc.); and Other Presentation to Local, State, and National conferences. 

Sales Model: MHM will employ a method of direct sales to the componemts of the complex sale, inluding Managed Care Companies, e.g.,Community Care Behavioral Health Organization; local Agencies, e.g., Mercy Behavioral Health; and the government entities that fund Medicaid and mental health services, the Federal government, i.e., Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; State level mental health offices, e.g., Pennsylvania Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS); local offices, e.g., Allegheny County Mental Health, Pittsburgh.
