Melissa McCaig-Welles is a curator and art consultant and founder of McCaig-Welles Gallery.
McCaig-Welles Gallery was one of the first galleries to establish themselves in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn in March of 2000. McCaig-Welles focuses on mid-career, cutting edge artists that have
emerged from the urban aesthetics that figured prominently in cities around the U.S. leading up to
the millennium. The impact of these styles now feature prominently in media, pop culture and,
many classically and self taught artists of the present. McCaig-Welles is committed to showcasing
impactful and innovative artists that effectively place a mirror in front of the viewer by creating
works that touch on current events, present day trends and insightful introspection.

Moving from having 2 established art galleries, including the McCaig-Welles Gallery which was 1
of the first galleries to establish themselves in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in March '00, to now renting
unique spaces and doing single shows.

Skills:

-Guest curating for a wide variety of national and international clients, including producing
international shows, attending art fairs, and effectively navigating international shipping and
customs issues.
-Successfully reaching out to Artists and signing contracts, in addition to organizing artist,
ensuring they're on time, as well as serving as a liaison between the repertoire of Artists and
clientele.
-Developing and leading curatorial projects, focusing on mid-career, cutting edge artists that have
emerged from the urban aesthetics that figured prominently in cities around the U.S. Leading up
to the millennium.
-Driving business development by creating innovative exhibition concepts for the 50+ artists
managed, and handling client interaction, while writing press and handling publicity, including
social media interactions.
-Impacting styles that now feature prominently in media, pop culture and many classically and selftaught artists of the present, as well as receiving recognition for curatorial endeavors and for discovering contemporary art.
-Conceptualizing the theme, and planning and installing exhibitions, which includes determining
the presentation of and installing artworks, as well as creating interpretive materials and training
staff on exhibition information.
-Playing an active role in the community by publishing information to journals, catalogs, and
books, while also maintaining updated knowledge of the art market and in-depth knowledge of the
collections.
-Strategically managing the logistics of getting the art to the gallery and selling it, as well as
serving as Production Supervisor and coordinator of custom framing design, including all aspects
of project completion.

Director of Marketing - Melissa McCaig-Welles, Seasoned Curator with over 24 years of
experience in building up collections and developing innovative ways in which objects, archives,
and artworks can be interpreted through exhibitions, publications, events, and audio-visual
presentation. Effectively managing a high-performance team of 5, which includes hiring, training,
and scheduling personnel, as well as developing production schedules. Extensive experience in
installations and focusing on a tightly curated selection of artists, while representing Artists,
handling all aspects of sales, managing client interaction, shipping the art. Committed to
showcasing impactful and innovative artists that effectively place a mirror in front of the viewer by
creating works that touch on current events, present day trends, and insightful introspection.
