My journey started years ago when I was alone at a bar hoping to meet someone new, but instead, I spent the night scrolling through a dating app. As I left feeling more alone than when I arrived, I thought about how much easier it would be to introduce myself if I could see profiles of the people in the room.
Hi, My name is Mike Freed and I am the Founder of Maka Connect.
We provide venues with a new way to attract and entertain their guests, with singles events like fully automated speed dating and gamified mixers.
The world of bar entertainment hasn’t changed much in decades and everyone has the same karaoke, trivia, or sports package with little room to be different.
Meanwhile American singles are spending four billion dollars a year on dating services that aren’t working, but if you google singles events, it’s a ghost town. Why? Because running these events is harder than it sounds. Those that do exist are the bright idea of event promoters who don’t usually do them again, or by specialist companies that don’t have much of a footprint.
Our app is a singles event in a box. We take care of everything including creating and rotating pairs for speed dating, creating scavenger hunt-like games to encourage more mixing at mixers, and managing likes, matches, and contact exchange for both. It is so easy, that any staff member can take about ten minutes to introduce the event and return to their job while it runs itself. Those promoters can focus on what they are good at, making their event a true spectacle rather than getting bogged down in the details. We also make it more effective for guests. They know more about who they are talking to with user profiles that include personalized icebreakers to skip the small talk and get to the conversation that matters faster.
We’re starting with bars and there are seventy thousand of them in the US, but we’re not done there, because restaurants, churches, and many more social venues are all in our sights.
We’re starting with available singles and there are fifty-five million of those in the US, but we’re not done there either, because our app can also be used for networking and friending, especially where it is badly needed on military bases and college campuses.
Our source of revenue is a combination of licensing fees paid by venues and ticket purchases from singles for events we promote We believe we can reach six thousand venues in three years, worth 60 million dollars annually with plenty of room to grow.
We launched a B2C open Beta weekly at one venue 5 months ago and have made eight thousand dollars in revenue proving singles are drawn to these events and the technology works.
We’ve got the team to get this done. I’m an army vet with a long career focused on data analysis. My CTO, Phillip Welch has been working in technology for just as long and currently leads an automation team for a large enterprise. We’ve also got an in-house app developer.
Thank You and if you have any questions, Maka Connection with me.
