I grew up in New Delhi, India where my Maaji (Mother) whipped up delicious, traditional foods. Our kitchen was a gathering place for family and friends as well as my culinary training ground. My Maaji showed me how to prepare delicious foods with skill and deep love, right down to picking cilantro leaves and blending my family's masala chai. When I came to the United States, I worked in the restaurant industry since December of 2003 and then decided to open my own restaurant, Maaji's Street Kitchen, located in St. Louis, Missouri, which serves a menu of traditional Indian dishes prepared with fresh and mostly organic ingredients. When I opened my restaurant, there were no Indian or ethnic choices for dinners in the mid-western city that served dishes made with organic ingredients where I lived. I wanted to share the joy of my native food, along with the culture of my country.
