Introduction –Luxar AI is building a Surface Intelligence Platform that uses SWIR photonics and AI to continuously monitor water, ice, snow, and other hazards on airport and transportation surfaces.
The Team –Our team combines more than 100 years of experience in photonics, successful startup exits, manufacturing expertise, and defense and aviation market access.
Problem –Airports still rely heavily on periodic, vehicle-based runway inspections, creating safety risks, operational disruptions, and an estimated $1.3M–$2.3M in annual losses at a Syracuse-scale airport. Luxar targets a $42.8B combined airfield and bridge infrastructure market.
Solution –Luxar’s FAA-compatible, pole-mounted SWIR sensors continuously classify dry, wet, snowy, and icy conditions from long range without interrupting airport operations—unlike conventional short-range or vehicle-mounted systems.
Business Model – Luxar AI follows a land-and-expand model, beginning with paid pilot programs and expanding into airport-wide deployments, recurring software, monitoring, and lifecycle services.
Competition –Existing spectro-polarimetric and NIR runway sensors generally operate over short distances and depend on vehicle-mounted periodic inspections; Luxar differentiates through long-range, fixed-infrastructure, continuous monitoring.
Our Vision –Starting with Syracuse as our first reference airport, we plan to expand across commercial and military airfields and ultimately become the Surface Intelligence Platform for aviation, transportation infrastructure, defense, and advanced air mobility.
Traction – Luxar AI has signed an MOU with Syracuse Regional Airport Authority to pursue a phased pilot program at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, creating a pathway toward operational validation and a first reference deployment.
