Refinery waste to diesel. At scale, profitable, and with carbon capture and sequestration. RMI will supply replicable multi-train modular platforms to convert refinery waste into liquid fuels. The company is working with six refineries using financeable tolling agreements that offer meaningful upside for all parties. The refinery waste is converted into zero-sulfur diesel, LPG, and naphtha sold by the refinery. Annually, 40 million metric tons of this refinery waste, known as petcoke, are exported and burned, creating greater environmental harm than coal combustion. RMI’s modular platform uses a non-combustion chemical process that captures emissions otherwise released during burning, converts them into product, and safely sequesters CO2 in deep saline aquifers. More SO2, NO2, and CO2 than coal the waste also contains heavy metals - known carcinogens. All going into our atmosphere for us to breathe. Furthermore, the 40 million metric tons can be transformed into ~ 1.8 billion gallons of zero-sulfur diesel, ~ 645 million gallons of naphtha and, ~ 340 million gallons of LPG. Why ship it overseas? Because US environmental law prohibits its use here.
