Kelping 2 Save The Planet

Developing ocean‑based carbon capture systems to support environmental restoration and generate sustainable products — with a focus on scalable, nature‑aligned innovation

We are developing a new substrate material to enable year‑round kelp cultivation using local genetic strains, without relying on the traditional spore‑shedding cycle. This science‑driven approach supports environmental restoration by enhancing carbon capture potential and expanding sustainable aquaculture practices.

Our research includes whole‑genome sequencing, genotyping‑by‑sequencing (GBS), and the creation of tools to produce a substrate applicable in similar climates worldwide — from Canada and New Zealand to Korea, Japan, and Europe. Beyond bull kelp, the process will be adapted for other algae species, including sugar kelp, which has applications in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture.

Our multidisciplinary team brings expertise in marine science, environmental systems, electronics, and operational deployment, with a shared commitment to ecological integrity and innovation.
