Katharine Pettit Creative is partnering with The Educational Alliance Center for Recovery&Wellness in New York City to bring our dance musical I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE... to folks dealing with substance use disorder, both those in recovery & their loved ones.
I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE... tells the story of three sisters struggling with addiction. Told entirely through dance and music this accessible form of outreach raises awareness of addiction and mental health while also offering healing and a resource for recovery to folks grappling with these issues now.
Katharine Pettit Creative's dance theatre musical, I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE..., shows three sisters struggling with addiction. In 2014 my sister and I had a falling out where I ceased enabling her addiction. It was one of the most difficult decisions I had ever made. The following few years witnessed the creation of work reflecting that struggle and journey to understand what my sister goes through each day combating the disease of addiction. Through research and distance to gain perspective, I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE... grew from one 3 minute piece of choreography to a 40 minute dance theatre musical.
KPC offers A Pathway to Wellness Through Movement: I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE... in a three part workshop.
KPC will guide participants through emotionally motivated movement exercises, followed by the presentation of our show, I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE..., concluding with a talk back to understand the power of dance as an instigator of conversation and communication.
Our main guiding principal is allowing self development through movement, accessing emotion through dance. That exercise combined with experiencing I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE... in performance removes the stigma from the difficult conversation about addiction and mental health, enabling participants to experience healing through movement and music therapy.
Utilizing specific movements connected to emotionally guided exercises, KPC allows a self care experience that leads to better health, mindfulness and wellness for the individual as well as the group as a whole, connecting the participants through their shared experience of movement and music.
