Kairos House is a home for boys in the foster care system, ages 12-17, who need extra support. We strive to provide intervention for teens who would otherwise fall victim to a life of violence, drugs, crime and poverty. Our focus is on providing these boys with relationship based rehabilitation services to make men who can be proud of where they come from. Our team is working to raise the down payment for a home where this can all be made possible. Once the home is established and state inspections passed, funding for keeping this home running will come directly from the state and fund raising. Our team currently consists of 3 employees who will work rotating shifts to support these boys. The program manager has dual bachelors degrees in religion and biblical studies, and theology and will use these credentials to support the teen boys in a trauma informed, compassionate way.  We have a board certified behavior analyst on staff to support with challenges that may arise around the clock, and a prior marine who will work around the clock to support the safety of the boys and property. Additionally the team has community support and has themselves worked with children who have behavioral challenges in multiple settings.
Why do we feel such a heart for boys from difficult backgrounds?
A little back story on our founder, Edwin Michaels. Edwin grew up in a rough neighborhood in Bakersfield, Ca. By the 1st grade he had run ins with local gangs and was active in the gang life by the fourth grade. By the age of thirteen, he fell victim to the meth epidemic and was addicted to substances until his early twenties when he had a coming to faith moment with God. Upon giving his life to Christ he found success in both family and education and has a real desire to see others, just as himself, find real relationship with God and avoid the pitfalls that come with homelessness and a lack of family support. He has a true passion for this project and sees the impact that can be made on this community and the future of many children who would otherwise have no hope at a productive future; children who would turn to a life of crime, drugs, and poverty if intervention is not provided.  We at the Kairos House believe that every child, regardless of past upbringing, is just one moment away from a life changing opportunity. It’s about time, for every child.
