Intelligent Networks Communications (INC) is a startup WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) offering high quality fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband to underserved and non-served residential and commercial clients.
Broadband “for all” initiatives have yet to be realized despite the efforts through private investment and public funding. In the state of Florida alone there are an estimated 1.2 million residences and businesses with poor to no broadband access, 90% being in rural communities. This disparity between rural and metropolitan communities is being referred to as the “Digital Divide”. Today, good broadband is essential in every home and business, similar to the transformation of telephone service 90+ years ago when it went from a luxury to being a utility.
Since the 1990’s $400B+ of taxpayers’ funds have been spent with the promise to provide everyone with fiber to the home (FTTH) broadband. The suburban and rural communities have not benefitted, which has left them with deficient and expensive choices like satellite, cellular and DSL (dial up over telephone lines). Why have broadband providers not developed these regions? The answer is simple, the cost to provide fiber and 5G (5th Generation) cellular to rural regions is too high and time consuming. The solution is (FWA) fixed wireless access. There is minimal competition in this space in Florida. WISP providers in Florida account for only 10% of the 1.2 million underserved customers, representing an annual revenue opportunity of approximately $120M. While it is obvious that the rural and suburban sectors are still in need, the large ISPs and Cellular 5G carriers remain focused on solutions in existing densely populated cities and metropolitan centers.
The Book of BROKEN PROMISES, by Bruce Kushnick published in 2015, illustrates that the fiber technology promises made “to all” have failed giving fixed wireless the opportunity to be the future for geographical regions that are hard or impossible to reach by the traditional technologies. The US ranks 30th globally for a complete nationwide fiber to the home infrastructure. Countries like South Korea and Chile are leading the US in this evolution.
We want to take advantage of the opportunity created by the “Digital Divide” and offer stable fixed wireless broadband at an affordable price to thousands of homes. Out of necessity driven by the massive global demand for fixed wireless broadband, this industry’s vendors have and continue to develop innovative hardware and software tools making the deployment of equipment faster and more cost effective. This technology has improved in the last decade rivalling fiber functionality. By installing easy to deploy antennas on pre-existing tower structures strategically located throughout the state and counties and by locating easy to deploy equipment on residential and commercial buildings (comparable to satellite installations but with a much smaller footprint), we will be able to provide wireless links in rural, suburban and in a growing number of cases, metropolitan centers.
We are working with the FAC’s (Florida Association of Counties) Task Force to address the “Digital Divide” in the Rural communities in Florida. The feedback is clear, the numerous homeowners we have talked to are dissatisfied with their present service and service provider which plays into our business model. We are poised to offer support in these areas by installing fixed wireless internet at a fraction of the cost and time compared to fiber. Wireless connections can span distances quickly and more cost effectively than any cable, fiber or 5G cellular network.
We are actively working with metropolitan and suburban HOA’s. Their networks are aging and are unable to keep up with the continuously growing demand for internet bandwidth due to the increasing numbers of devices being added as well as the increase in data being received / transmitted. The wireless networks offered by INC will provide adequate bandwidths for current demands and can easily scale to meet the demands that will undoubtedly continue to grow as the number of devices increases and become part of the “Internet of Things (IoT).”
With the support of FWA technology developments we can roll out service for a fraction of the cost of traditional cabling, and in a fraction of the time. FWA technology upgrades equate to simple antenna upgrades, not the miles of cable required by conventional broadband providers. It is also important to note that the internet industry is less impacted by cyclical economic volatility.
INC is eligible to apply for current government funding under the BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) program to be rolled out over the next 1-2 years. This puts INC in a position of strength to disrupt the traditional ISPs. By qualifying for this funding, competitors cannot use BEAD funding to overbuild in the areas where INC is already approved.
