Heavy Pedal Tours is a 15 seat pedal pub bike for people of all ages, and is wheelchair accessible. We partner with local businesses to offer unique food and drink tastings, shopping experiences, family friendly outings, and private parties. Our pedal pub travels along the shore of Lake Michigan and throughout Downtown Racine. We offer several different tours each day throughout the summer season, and several holiday tours throughout Oct thru December.
As the owner of Heavy Pedal Tours, I have over 30 years experience in event management and customer service, and 20 years in the tourism industry. I have managed a staff of over 30 people, coordinated multiple events at one time, and negotiated terms and contracts with numerous vendors. I have two years experience as a Pedal Pub Driver, and understand the ins and outs of this type of business.
Currently I have several businesses that are partnering with me to offer unique tours to locals and tourists. We will be operating out of a restaurant located at a very large reef marina, hosting 921 boaters and their families, and I believe a lot of our business will be generated through the that community.
I have put $5000 down to have a pedal pub bike built in Spain. I had a partner who offered to buy the bike for me, but when the bike was completed and I needed to pay off the balance, she indicated she didn't actually have the money. As you can figure, she is no longer a part of my business, and I am the sole proprietor.
Once I found out about her deception, I had contacted WWBIC to urgently try to find grants or funding to get my bike shipped to the states. The bike needs to be paid off by May 17th or I will lose it. WWBIC is trying to push through a traditional small business loan; however, I've had issues in the past with them, which led me to getting a partner in the first place. This is why I'm seeking other ways to find funding to get my bike, and possibly get it sooner since so many businesses are eager for me to start operating for upcoming events to kick off the summer.
My business is already built and ready to go, I simply need the money for the bike. It will take 20 days to ship to Chicago. The pedal pub industry in this region typically starts in early May. The sooner I can pay the balance on the bike, the sooner I can get rolling. My original goal was to begin full operation by Memorial Day, but if I have to wait on WWBIC, there's a possibility I could miss out on an entire month of seasonal tourist opportunities that puts me at the end of June.
I am eager to find an investor who shares my goals in offering unique experiences to the local community, while showcasing local businesses. I hope to find someone who will understand the value of this business and see my worth as the owner and operator.
