We’re launching a luxe sober bar + wellness lounge in Portsmouth, NH — complete with botanical cocktails, Qi-powered healing rooms, group therapy spaces (Holding Space & Pour Over), individual retreats (Unwind & Clarity), and a raised-bed garden sanctuary called Thyme to Heal. As a licensed MLADC (Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) and LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) with deep roots in the Seacoast region, I am seeking funding to establish a community-based drop-in wellness center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This center will serve as a welcoming, stigma-free space offering immediate, low-barrier access to mental health and substance use support, peer-led recovery services, and holistic wellness activities. The need for such a center is pressing. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated mental health challenges, leading to increased social isolation and substance use. Local assessments, such as Portsmouth's Community Health Needs Assessment, highlight significant gaps in services for vulnerable populations, including individuals with mental health needs, those experiencing social isolation, and marginalized groups . A drop-in wellness center would address these gaps by providing accessible support and fostering community connections. Our model draws inspiration from successful initiatives like the Wildcats for Recovery's free drop-in wellness clinic, which offers services such as ear acupuncture, Reiki, guided meditation, and chair massage.
